It had a really boring first half. Then in the second half it was a bit better.

This book is fun and funky fresh! I laughed and cried and couldn't help but fall in love with all the characters. It was a frighteningly avid commentary on private schools in Australia.

Humourous and quirky, with a protagonist you care about; engaging for reluctant readers; no female characters other than love interest; about friendship and bullying and using language to retaliate; becomes a little tedious toward the end; would teach to Yr. 7 or 8.

Amazing. Couldn't stop reading it.

Don't Call Me Ishmael! Is an entertaining and funny read. Bauer manages to keep the tone of the book light despite the serious themes. The inner thoughts of the main character Ishmael are relatable for all teenagers and younger readers. When initially starting this book I thought it would not be something that interested me, but I soon found it to be quite enjoyable. The humour was at times a bit stale and jokes were restated too much, but this did help to show the character's personalities. The
